JPPDAS provides an opportunity for readers, researchers, and authors to discuss published articles. The purpose of these discussions is to clarify findings, offer scholarly criticism, develop interpretations, and identify issues requiring editorial follow-up.
1. Scope of Discussion
Discussions may address:
• The accuracy of methods, analysis, and interpretation of results.
• The consistency of conclusions with the research evidence.
• Relevant literature or perspectives.
• Limitations of the study and implications of the findings.
• Errors or alleged violations of publication ethics.
Scientific disagreements do not in and of themselves indicate errors or violations.
2. How to Submit a Discussion
Readers may submit comments or a “Letter to the Editor” through the journal’s official contact channels or the available submission system. Submissions must include:
• The title and DOI or link to the article being discussed.
• The sender’s identity and contact information for editorial communication.
• A clear description of the issue or argument.
• References or supporting evidence.
• A statement of any relevant conflicts of interest.
Reports of alleged violations may be submitted confidentially to the editor. Anonymous reports containing sufficient evidence may still be considered.
3. Discussion Etiquette
Comments must focus on the substance of the article, use professional language, and respect all parties involved. The journal does not accept personal attacks, discrimination, commercial promotion, disclosure of personal data without proper justification, or unsubstantiated allegations.
Criticism will not be rejected solely because it contradicts the views of the author or editor.
4. Editorial Review
The editor assesses the relevance, clarity, evidence, and compliance of comments with discussion ethics. The editor may request clarification, editing, or review by an independent expert.
Eligible comments may be published as a letter to the editor or other forms of scientific correspondence and linked to the article under discussion. Submission of a comment does not guarantee publication.
5. Authors’ Right to Reply
The authors of the article are given the opportunity to respond to criticism or questions within the timeframe specified by the editor. The response must address the substance of the issue and include evidence if necessary.
The absence of a response from the authors does not automatically preclude the publication of an appropriate comment or an editorial follow-up based on evidence.
6. Follow-Up
If the discussion reveals issues with the article, the editor will conduct an investigation in accordance with the journal’s policies. Actions may include clarification, correction, an “expression of concern,” or retraction of the article, depending on the nature of the issue and the available evidence.
Substantive changes are not made without notice. An editorial notice must explain the reasons for the action and link to the relevant article.
7. Independence and Objections
Editors with conflicts of interest do not participate in decisions regarding the relevant discussion. Commenters or authors may file an objection through the journal’s official contact channels, providing reasons and additional evidence.
All discussions and reports are handled fairly, while maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive information and the integrity of the scientific record.
